At Harrow International School Bangkok, we are very fortunate to be able to offer sailing to all our budding fans of water sports.
There are a number of ways in which young Harrovians can get involved in this most wonderful of sports. The Harrow Bangkok Sailing Club aims to introduce and improve sailing and team skills, and offers all students the opportunity for lake, dinghy, sea and yacht sailing as they progress in skills and age.
Firstly there is the Sailing Activity which currently takes place on a Wednesday afternoons on the magnificent Harrow lake. It is open to all abilities, from beginner up to advanced, and from those in Year 4 and above. The activity is supervised by trained staff and there is always a rescue boat on station.
We also offer a number of training weekends throughout the year through our partnership with the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, the only sailing club in Thailand with a Royal Charter. Here budding sailors get a chance to improve their skills, sail different types of dinghies and test themselves on with sea sailing. These weekends are always great fun, and very tiring!
For experienced sailors we are starting to offer the chance to learn to sail as part of a crew on a keel boat in a deep sea regatta. Currently this is a unique opportunity for students at Harrow Bangkok, as no other International School in Thailand offers this!
Furthermore, sailing plays an important role for both learning and leadership in Physical Education and for the Duke of Edinburgh awards. Every year there is a four day dinghy cruise available for those students taking their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
There are plenty of opportunities for all ages and abilities to be involved in sailing at Harrow Bangkok. I look forward to seeing you in a dinghy before long!
